Digital Trends: What drew you to it damn friends? What prompted you to join the project?
Rob Riggle: People! Everyone involved was really talented and really funny. For me, these days, it’s all about the people involved. I had a feeling making this movie was going to be a lot of fun, and it totally was.
The movie has a talented cast. Here you are, Cathy Griffin, Nicole Bayer, Nikki Glaser, and Will Arnett – just to name a few. Was there ever a moment when the cast was together?
The cast isn’t complete, but we had some scenes where a big part of us were together, which is cool. I had a lot of scenes with Harvey Guillén and loved every minute of it. When I was lucky enough to be around the larger group, we had a blast. We would sit and tell stories. A lot of us have always admired each other from afar but never had the chance to work together, so it was a really great opportunity to meet people you’ve always wanted to work with.
Your character is a very kind and optimistic teacher. Have you ever had a teacher like this who helped frame your character?
I think we’ve all had a bunch of teachers… real strong teachers, hard-core, and then also really nice, very positive, really happy teachers. I had a wood shop teacher who was very energetic and was always playing music and seemed to really love his life. His attitude was somewhat contagious. You would enter his room and music was playing, and he would greet you by saying, “Hey, come on! Get your safety glasses and let’s get to work!”
Did you ab-lip your lines, or are they all in the text?
It’s always a combination, so I never know what makes the final cut. There is always a solid text, in addition to the book damn friends it was amazing. But you always end up adding things yourself. You find the little moments that make them special, so it’s always a good mix of the two.
damn friends It is a comedy, but it is a comedy inspired by horror. What are some of your favorite horror movies?
When I was a kid, I loved thrillers. I know jaws Not technically qualified, but when a movie can spoil you for life and make you fear the ocean, I think it does, so that’s on the list. also, Exorcist. I know a lot of people are watching it now and laughing, but in the past, this thing was terrifying. And of course, I’ve always loved slasher movies, like Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers. There are a lot of good things.
There’s also one thing that I find really cool: the others With Nicole Kidman. I loved this movie for a reason. It was weird and it was scary, but not in a jumpy, scary-type way. The jump scares me to no end, because they get me every time. I’m an easy sign for this kind of thing.
Imagine they would Cursed Friends 2. Give me some comedians you’d like to be on the cast with.
Oh man, well, we gotta get Paul Sher, Owen Burke, Rob Hippel, Jason Mantzoukas, Melissa McCarthy, and Jessica St. Clair. I think this would be a great start, but I can go on to list the comedians that I love, like Heidi Gardner, Jason Sudeikis and Paul Rudd.
If someone flips the channels, and they come across damn friendsWhat would you say to make them want to see the movie?
