Snyder prepares to fight

At the end of September, the leaders made a single move that caught my eye, adding a “Communication Head” of focused internal and external communications and handling of “public affairs”. At first, the title “Communications” confused me a bit and was wondering how this position fit into Julie Donaldson’s role as Senior Vice President of Media and Content.

After further discussion and reflection, I realized that this position did not focus on traditional efforts to connect with fans at all, but instead is Tony Wylie’s old position as chief publicist for the team.

millimeter. They were happy days. Tony Wylie 2.0 is Jane Medina, a former communications executive for several energy companies, including Exelon, and “As a prolific communicator, he successfully weathered major crises.

This should have been the first sign that something was going on, the fact that Jason Wright was asking for support. Jason has served so ably as Dan Snyder.”firemanSo far, distracting fires, like the Sean Taylor disaster, to turn the heat off his employer, but the raging hell brewing with both congressional investigations and Mary Jo White head-to-head reporting seems too much even. Experienced man McKenzie to hang.

Then another strange thing happened. After staying out of the limelight in the wake of the disappointing brand-wide launch of ‘Commanders’ in February, Dan Snyder emerged from his self-imposed exile into international waters – aiming to toughen up a congressional investigation into his mismanagement of the team – to happily befriend Jerry Jones before the fourth week in Dallas.

Decked out in Cowboys colors, and with his wife and tackle in tow, Dan assembled it with his strongest supporter among the NFL owners, and the head of his arch-rival the Dallas Cowboys, who has scored 33-14 over the past 23 years against the Redskins/football team/leaders in Snyder. Jerry loves Dan.

This exit from exile was notable for several reasons. First, going to Dallas to kiss Jerry’s ring represents Dan trying to support his strongest ally in internal discussions with that league. It also sends a message loud and clear that Dan Snyder is here – he’s not hanging out, he hasn’t “back off” – he’s in the spotlight and no longer hiding on his yacht off the coast of Elba. He intends to be very involved.

Then earlier today. The team sent a letter to the House committee investigating Snyder and the team, in an attempt to undermine the credibility of the investigation, and attempt to discredit several key witnesses, including former team boss Bruce Allen, Jason Friedman, Melanie Coburn and David Buchen.

This appears to be a preemptive blow to the publication of the commission’s findings, which could be revealed any time now. Combined with the imminent release of the report from Mary Jo White investigation Commissioned by the NFL, the double reporting could deal a heavy blow against Snyder’s two-decade grip on one of the league’s worst franchises.

Fasten seat belts. Football in the nation’s capital may not be worth watching over the next couple of months, but the way the stars align, the odds are improving so we can crush them off the field this fall.
